As you are reading through Othello, hopefully at the 'No Fear Shakespeare' site (HERE), please begin working on the five (5) Act Summary assignments below.
For each of the Act Summary assignments, you will be provided with three (3) passages from each act of which you will choose two to gather the following information:
· Who is speaking? (1 mark)
· To whom is he/she speaking? (if the character is speaking to him or herself, it is a soliloquy or a solo monologue) (1 mark)
· Where does this passage take place (setting?) (1 mark)
· What is the context? (what has just happened in the plot that sets up this speech) (2 marks)
o Explain how it relates to the political, historical, or social context of the time.
o Explain how it reveals important information about character or motivation
o Explain how it affects or forwards the plot
o Explain how it reveals conflict
o Explain how it demonstrates important literary techniques such as irony or imagery.
o Explain how it develops theme.
